The sailboat Tornado is a brilliant example of a class that was designed specifically for Olympic competition. In 2004 on the Saronikos Gulf in Greece the Tornado sailed in its seventh Olympic Games. The Olympic status of the Tornado has brought some of the finest sailors from all over the world to the class. With over 22 nations regularly attending the annual championships the Tornado has a world-wide level of racing.
Today the Tornado is still the fastest one-design production boat in the world.
Since 2011 champions in Tornado European Championship are crews from Greece.
«It is never easy to win any championship, especially when a total of 10 races is sailed. You need to sail your best every day and without making mistakes or at least by making fewer mistakes than your opponents. When you start a race standing first you get an additional pressure, as every day you need to prove that you are the best».
Alexandros Tagaropoulos – winner in Tornado European Championship 2016
From 2011 to 2016 in Tornado World Championship the winner was crew from Greece – Iordanis Paschalidis and Konstantinos Trigonis. Will it be the 7th World victory of Greece? We will know it at the beginning of September in Thessaloniki!
